Consignment or Resale. Which is Best for Me?
We do the work. You keep (most) of the money!
When is comes to consignment vs. resale, which is best is determined by your goals. But these first wo sentences pretty well sum up the differences between the two. Still want to know which is best for you? Read on!
Traditional Buying & Selling
In a traditional we buy, we sell scenario, you come to us with something you want to sell, let's say it's a classic, gold watch, with silver inlays. We appraise it, then make you a fair and reasonable offer based on its value to us. Keep in mind, fair and resonable takes into account we are looking to sell the item ourselves for a profit, but don't know how long we'll have to hold onto it before we can make our return. In other words, we're assuming all the risks of selling and you get to walk out with cash in hand. The catch for you? It's that you are taking an amount for the watch that is less than what we specualte it's resale value to be. As with all of our transactions, we are up-front, honest and clear regarding what it's worth to us vs. what it could be worth.
The added value to us buying from you directly, is that it saves you the time, hassle and stress of peddling your wares on open markets like Facebook, ebay, Craigslist, at yard sales, etc. Emails and calls about the items condition, price and seeing how much better of a "deal" they can get from you are gone. As are the conversations about, "My uncle used to have one just like this..."; these conversations are usually more about people wanting to reminisce than to buy. And again, selling directly to us elimnates all of this.
Consignment
When you choose to sell something with us through consignment (let's stay with the watch), we still handle all of the selling, but you get to keep whatever money your watch brings in, save for our handling fee, which is 25% of the total sale price of whatever we sell for you. The consignment option still saves you all the time, hassle, stress and "buyer" reminiscing of trying to sell it yourself, plus it gives you the opportunity to make more money on the open auction market. Of course, it also means you might make less. In reality, when we buy and sell outright, we take on the risk of an unknown return, with consignment, you do too. But, with our resources and experience, we also maximize your chances of getting the best and highest return possible.
Which is best for You
Just like when we started, which is best, traditional buy or consignment, is what suits your goal and your style best. For quick, easy and fair sales transactions of items you want to sell, our traditional buy-it-from-you model is an excellent option. But, if you're up for the excitement and opportunity of an openmarket and live auction, consignment selling is for you.
